Gledhow is a community school which serves it's neighbourhood: building close links with groups in the area and going out to local groups and organisations for educational and social purposes. These include curriculum enrichment visits, sporting and artistic events and social occasions. This page is being built to share some of these local partnerships and the joy they bring to all involved.

Gledhow's community partners include Saint Edmund's Parish Church Gledhow Christian Care Home and The Friends of Gledhow Woods.

The Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods

For the last 5 years, pupils from Gledhow Primary School have worked closely with the Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods on a number of projects. These have included working with local artists to create designs for electrical boxes near the school, creating new hedgerow on the border of Gledhow Valley Woods and over 100 trees planted throughout the valley floor. Children have learned much about the local area and the importance of conserving and taking care of our surroundings. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with FGVW in the years to come.

St Edmund's Parish Church

David Paton Williams, former vicar at St Edmund's, was a devoted friend of Gledhow Primary. He led assemblies and joined us for events such as Harvest and Christmas service at the church. We wish him the best in his new role as Nigel Wright takes over as the new vicar. Our school has a long-standing relationship with the church, evident in our crest with a Glede (Red Kite) and the shield of St Edmund's.

Gledhow Care Home

In 2022, we partnered with KiB, a charity focused on intergenerational healthcare, to create a twinning project between our school and Gledhow Care Home. Monthly, a group of Year 6 pupils visit the home to bring happiness to its residents.

Hazel, a resident of the home, says, "I love it when the children come. They are the best visitors you could wish for."

Intergenerational projects benefit both young and old. Studies show that conversing with older people helps children develop good listening skills and a sense of purpose. Additionally, these visits offer a chance to form new friendships and hear stories from a different time.
