The Pupil Premium is a grant from the government, starting April 2011, that provides extra funds for pupils from underprivileged backgrounds who tend to underperform. Schools receive the premium based on the number of students registered for free meals and those who are/were in local authority care, which indicate poverty. The amount of money per student is fixed. Although the government doesn't specify how schools should use the funds, they must demonstrate effective use in closing the achievement gap. The performance tables now include data on the progress of disadvantaged pupils compared to their peers.

Our school receives £1,345 of additional Pupil Premium Funding for every child who qualifies for free meals. The funding can support teaching and learning, and continues even if eligibility ends. Children may be eligible for free meals if their parents receive certain benefits or meet specific criteria. The funding can be used for various purposes, including academic support, trips, and well-being initiatives. We encourage all eligible families to apply, even if their child already receives a free meal or doesn't plan to take one. Contact us if you need assistance.
