Curriculum Enrichment
Curriculum Enhancement
The children have 2 visitors during the school year to enhance their learning. In the spring term the children have Zoo Lab visitors where the children experience seeing lots of exotic animals and develop their learning on animal classification and food chains.
In the summer term we have ‘Samuel Pepys’ visiting to talk about the Great Fire of London. The children create a fantastic silhouette of the scene as well as passing along buckets of water in a reenactment.
Anything else?
A late-night adventure in June each year. The children take part in craft, sport and campfire activities.
Visiting Armley Mills in the Autumn term as part of the history topic. ‘Would you like to live in Victorian Britain?’
Collection
We have Gledowls places for children who need to arrive earlier/ stay later than the start times stated. Please see https://www.gledhow.leeds.sch.uk/Gledowls-before-and-after-school-club
Ochre and Saffron classes start school at 8:40 and Citrine at 8:50. Gates open 10 minutes before the start time and close promptly at 8:50. The Year 2 gate is the Bracken Wood entrance which is located on Brackenwood Drive. Ochre and Saffron must be collected at 3:10 and Citrine class at 3:20. If there are any changes to pick up arrangements, please inform the school office or the class teacher via Class Dojo. Dojo messages will be checked periodically during the school day but there is not an expectation for staff to respond to messages outside of school hours.
Homework
Children have weekly spellings which align with the Little Wandle phonics and spelling program. The spelling book is sent home on a Monday with the new spellings in the front.
Each week, children will bring home a reading book appropriate to their level which should be read to an adult 3 times a week. They will also bring home a sharing book from the library.
Children are expected to complete a weekly task on the Mathletics website. The tasks are set every Monday.
