Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE)

PSHE equips children with the knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills to live healthy and safe lives, addressing real-life issues affecting school, family, and community. It promotes physical and mental health, individual responsibility, and understanding of differences.

The Department for Education's 2019 guidance made Health Education and Relationships Education statutory in primary schools, covering mental and physical health and safe relationships. Our updated Relationships and Sex Education policy reflects these changes, teaching age-appropriate sex education to safeguard children and provide necessary skills and knowledge. We have a collective responsibility to ensure our children grow up happy and healthy. See the DfE guidance and our policy for more information.

Our PSHE scheme of work (You, Me, PSHE)

We use the You, Me, PSHE scheme and SEMH MindMate champions lessons to help children achieve their fullest potential. The resource includes lesson plans, assessments, and teaching resources for age-appropriate lessons covering physical and mental health, society, relationships, and life skills.

We consider different faiths, values, and beliefs in our high-quality teaching, which also covers British values, safety, mental health, and first aid.

We invite visitors from the community to provide further education.

See our DfE statutory guidance, updated RSE policy, consultation presentation, and PSHE statement of intent below.

MindMate

MindMate is a Leeds-based website providing emotional wellbeing and mental health information for young people, their families, and professionals.

In addition to our PSHE curriculum, we use MindMate lessons, developed by teachers and mental health professionals in Leeds and supported by NHS Leeds Clinical Commissioning Group. These interactive lessons help children manage their emotions, understand others' mental health needs, cope with transitions and exam stress, reduce stigma, and support friends and family.
