Real PE- We are a Real Legacy School!

In 2019, we adopted the Real PE scheme, becoming a Real Legacy school. Real PE, Real Gym, Real Play, and Real Leaders are taught to every child to develop their physical ability, skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Beginning in EYFS, fundamental movement skills of agility, balance, and coordination are developed through fun songs and games, building progressively each year.

In KS2, the focus is on applying these skills to game play and personal challenges. Real PE aims to create positive relationships with physical activity for life, developing physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, sport, and life.

Cross Curricular

PE is not only a curriculum subject but also promoted in various areas of school life. In EYFS, physical skills are developed through outdoor activities such as obstacle courses and climbing trees. In KS1, physical activity is encouraged in subjects like Geography to explore the outdoors. Sports leaders from KS2 help facilitate games during break times, and many classes take part in the daily mile. We collaborate with other schools and organizations for competitive sport opportunities and provide additional coaching through our Enrichment provision, including support from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

Team Games

Our program for team games teaches sports skills and promotes strategy and teamwork. We revisit these skills throughout the year and across school to enable our children to develop general team game skills and specialise in sports such as football. Children can join our lunchtime leagues, Enrichment Clubs, and represent the school in our competitive teams.

Individual Pursuits

In addition to team sports, we teach children solo sports skills such as running and swimming. While these activities are typically solo, we enter competitions to allow students to represent the school. As one of the top ten schools in Leeds for all sports, we excel in many areas. For instance, our swimming teams have been undefeated for nine years and have produced successful swimmers in Leeds, Regional, and National competitions.
